What’s your name, what do you do at Neurocore, and how long have you worked here?
My name is Jenna Johnston and I’m the marketing coordinator here. I joined the Neuropeak Pro team in April 2019, making this my 8-monthaversary.
What’s something you love about your job?
I feel incredibly fortunate that there are many aspects about my job that I love. When it comes down to it, I’ve always had a passion for health & wellness and the opportunity to help people. Being a part of a company whose mission is to help improve people’s lives is particularly rewarding for me. Not to mention being surrounded by a fun, extremely talented group of coworkers.
As far as my day-to-day goes, I love projects that involve writing and content development. Finding the best way to communicate a message while looking at big picture strategy is something that I really enjoy. I’m a big fan of brainstorming sessions and am always looking for opportunities to make connections in the industry.
Tell us a bit about your background. Where did you go to school? What did you study?
I grew up in the East Lansing, MI area and attended GVSU. There, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Communications with a minor in Advertising/Public Relations. It is really a unique field of study because it integrates health sciences and messaging. Taking complex medical concepts and distilling them down to be easily communicated is an important part of what we do at Neuropeak Pro.
Are you an introvert or an extrovert? How does that help you do your job?
I’d say I’m 60:40 introvert. I prefer writing an email over talking on the phone. I’m also very productive working on a project solo. I learn through observation, and like to think I’m a good listener. That said, I thrive off of other people’s energy and very much enjoy engaging with new people. Project leading and managing is a big part of my role, where my extrovert often kicks in.
What’s your favorite thing to do in your free time?
I love an adventure of any kind. I’m always trying out new workout classes around town. Biking in the summer, skiing in the winter. I love a good happy hour (who doesn’t?), and read a lot of female author comedy (Mindy Kailing, Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Issa Rae, Jenny Mollen). If it involves spending time with my family or friends, count me in.
Some interesting facts about me:
• I am deathly afraid of jellyfish
• If I could meet any celebrity it would be Shaquille O’Neal
• I interned with Make-A-Wish Michigan and have been volunteering with them since 2015
• I’m a concert fanatic
• When I get a dog of my own, I want to name him Kevin
What are some of your current personal or professional Goals?
Currently, I am pushing myself to listen to more podcasts. It’s never really been my thing, but I believe that there is so much educational and creative content that I can learn from people, and I think podcasts are a great medium to do so. Professionally, I would like to learn to be more efficient in Adobe and expand my skillset in graphic design.
