What is Neurofeedback Brain Performance Training?

After you have completed the brain diagnostic assessment, you will begin your neurofeedback brain performance training. At a Neurocore Brain Performance Center, each 45-minute neurofeedback and biofeedback session takes advantage of your brain’s ability to change – that's neuroplasticity. During the 30-session program, you learn to breathe deeper and slower, your brain learns how to stop spiking out of range and brain and heart function improves. All in a noninvasive, drug-free way.

1. Biofeedback Training (HRV Training)

With HRV, or heart rate variability, biofeedback you learn to breathe deeper and slower to maximize your heart function, allowing proper blood and oxygen to flow throughout your body, most importantly, to your brain. 20% of the energy of every breath you take goes straight to your brain. For the first several minutes of every session, you will work with a client advocate to focus on improving your breathing, getting immediate feedback of your HRV. You will receive further HRV biofeedback during your neurofeedback training.

You are able to get this feedback by watching your respiratory rate and heart rate simultaneously (displayed in picture). To achieve consistency, you will watch a pacer that is pre-set by a client advocate to inhale and exhale at a rate that is working towards your optimal breaths per minute pace. Over the course of the 30-session program, the ability of your heart and respiratory system to work together (cohesion) may improve.

Benefits of Heart Rate Variability Biofeedback Training:

  • Reduce stress
  • Reduce high blood pressure
  • Reduce cortisol levels
  • Improve recovery (better sleep, faster muscle and mental recovery)
  • Improve cognitive and memory performance
  • Improve mood
  • Increase energy level

2. Neurofeedback Training (EEG Biofeedback)

With neurofeedback, our training is fun! You watch a movie. That's it. That's all you have to do! You will watch a movie for 40 minutes each session while hooked up to EEG equipment that plays when your brain function is within the therapeutic range. When it goes out of range, the movie pauses, which tells you that something is out of balance.

During the 30-session program, your brain may subconsciously learn how to stop spiking out of range, and brain function improves. You learn how to optimize your brainwave activity the same way you learn other skills — through feedback and practice. You can bring in your own DVD movie (or tv show) or select from our collection at the center. You will periodically be reassessed throughout the 30-session program and you will have access to our clinicians every step of the way.

Benefits of Neurofeedback Training:

  • Improve focus and attention
  • Improve quality of sleep
  • Increase energy level
  • Improve recovery (faster muscle and mental recovery)
  • Reduce stress and anxiety
  • Reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches and migraines
  • Improve mood
  • One study shows, neurofeedback may increase IQ by 12 points.

Why is the program 30 sessions? How often do I need to come in?

Research indicates the brain may need 30 sessions (or 20 hours) of feedback to move beyond the adaptive state of neuroplasticity, and to make changes that last. If treatment is ended prior to 30 sessions the lasting gains are not as significant. We recommend 2-3 sessions of training per week for optimal benefit.

What conditions does biofeedback and neurofeedback training help treat?

Biofeedback and neurofeedback training has been shown to treat ADHD, anxiety, the symptoms of autism and Asperger's syndrome, depression, traumatic brain injury (TBI), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), migraines and headaches, stress, sleep issues and sleep disorders. If you come to us to treat one specific condition, you more than likely will experience improvements in other areas of your health and well-being, as well. One of the first and most common improvements discovered, even toward the beginning of training, is an improvement in sleep quality, even if someone came to us to treat ADHD, stress or another condition or symptom.

Neurocore may be covered by your insurance

Many insurance plans cover Neurocore’s services. We provide a FREE insurance consultation prior to the time of the initial neurological assessment to inform clients if and how much will be covered.

You may be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) for Neurocore services.

In Michigan, we are an in-network partner for Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Blue Care Network (BCN) and will directly bill your insurance for your convenience. If you are not a BCBS or BCN member, your out-of-network insurance may provide coverage for our program.
