Brain Training for Memory

With every passing year, it can be difficult not to fret about future memory loss and whether or not you are showing signs. Memory problems and cognitive impairment are thought to be synonymous with aging. However, new research shows that is not necessarily true. In fact, we now know it is possible to grow your brain and address the effects of aging in a few month’s time.

At Neurocore Brain Performance Centers, we’ll show you how age really is just a number. We develop a customized regimen of rigorous brain training to help you tackle your unique mental sharpness goals. Most importantly, through a more optimized brain, you may experience memory improvement, as well as better sleep, focus, mood, mental clarity and overall cognitive performance.

Caring for your aging brain

Like any good engine or electrical device, your brain wears with age. It doesn’t recharge as well and it may start to sputter a bit. However, you can take care of your brain just as you can take care of your teeth. You have the ability to either neglect your brain, so that it steadily deteriorates; or cultivate it, so it can behave younger and healthier year after year.

It’s believed that after age 40, the parts of the brain responsible for memory shrink by about 0.5% each year. Some lifestyle choices you make — or other health conditions you suffer from — can speed up this natural brain atrophy, such as:

  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Sleep apnea
  • Insomnia/poor sleep
  • Concussion
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Stress/anxiety
  • Stroke
  • Obesity
  • Depression

Brain Growers

While it’s depressing to think about your brain shriveling away over time, the good news is: the brain is forgiving — and has an incredible capacity to change and learn. New research has shown through a combination of lifestyle changes and other interventions, it may be possible to slow brain atrophy.

The top brain growers, according to research, are:

  • Neurofeedback
  • Exercise
  • Learning
  • Meditation
  • Diet
  • Good sleep

At Neurocore, we take all of these “brain growers” and combine them into a comprehensive, educational, catered-to-you memory treatment program that helps you improve your memory — both retention and recall.

Neurofeedback and memory

Neurofeedback training helps balance the electrical activity in the brain to ensure the brain is not running too fast or too slow. By getting the brain into a healthier functioning state, the brain is able to better regulate your emotions, behaviors and all of the symptoms in your body, including

the other two vital organs, your heart and lungs. This contributes to positive improvements in your heart health, and overall mental and physical health — reducing your risk of “brain shrinkers” like heart disease, diabetes and obesity, among other things.

Neurofeedback also has been shown to increase the volume of white matter and gray matter in the brain, including those regions responsible for memory and learning.
